AIS Construction Equipment Course Descriptions

Basic Hydraulics
- Complete hydraulic system overview uses on today’s heavy equipment.
- Technician will be taught the basics of oils used, Pascal’s Law, safety, and common components on a basic hydraulic system.
- Perform disassembly and assembly of reservoirs, hoses, gear, vane and piston pumps, control valves and cylinders.
- Technician will gain a basic knowledge of all these components.
- The last day technician will perform some basic hydraulic testing and adjusting. 5 day class*
- Must pass final test with an 85% or higher.

PM Tune- Up (Formerly Advanced Hydraulics)
- This is for the technician that has had Dash 6, Dash 5 and Dash 7 Komatsu excavator training.
- Technician will be taught in more detail the load sensing system used on Komatsu excavators.
- Technician will perform Komatsu excavator PM Tune-ups.
- This is for the advanced technicians who have taken Basic Hydraulics or equivalent.
- Good refresher course for tech who took Dash 6 and Dash 7 classes before.
- Repair 40 clock hours. Cost: $975.00
Basic Electrical
- Complete basic knowledge of electrical systems used in the heavy equipment industry.
- Technician will be taught Ohm’s law and how to perform calculations.
- Be introduced to relays, fuses, batteries, diodes, capacitors, and resistors and know how to properly test them.
- Technician will perform basic testing on starting and charging systems.
- Learn how to properly use a multi-meter to perform testing. 5 day class
- Must pass final test with 85% or higher to continue on.

Applied Electrical
- Technician will spend time troubleshooting with a multi-meter.
- Learn and understand complete starting and charging circuits.
- Great emphasis will be taught on troubleshooting accurately and efficiently starting and charging circuits.
- Technician will troubleshoot electrical systems that use relays and sending units using the Komatsu breakout box.
- Repair 40 clock hours.Cost:$975.00
Basic Diesel Engine Rebuild
- This is for technician will very little experience on diesel engines.
- Technician will go through complete structure and function of a diesel engine.
- Will disassemble a diesel engine and become familiar with all components.
- Will learn how to measure all components and determine if they can be reused. Assemble complete engine, go through complete assembly instructions, the “do’s and don'ts of assembly”.
- 5 day class.

Diesel Fuel Systems
- Learn basic overview of the diesel engine that pertains to AIS.
- Perkins, Komatsu and Cummins engine will be the main topics.
- Go through structure and function of these diesel engines.
- Will be taught about the different types of fuel systems used on these three different manufacturer engines.
- Last day will be troubleshooting.
- Class designed around and mid level technician familiar with diesel engines.
- 5 day class.

Power Trains (Formerly Torque Converter and Transmissions)
- Technician will be taught the basics of torque converters and their structure and function.
- Will learn structure and function of the JCB syncro-shuttle and powershift transmissions, Komatsu countershaft loader transmissions, Komatsu planetary and countershaft bulldozer transmissions.
- Technician will disassemble and assemble a syncro-shuttle, powershift, and bulldozer countershaft and wheel loader countershaft.
- Perform basic testing on all of the discussed transmissions.
- This is not a rebuilding class, this is a great class for an experienced technician that has knowledge that AIS may have just hired. It will give them a fast update of what type of transmissions AIS uses.
- 5 day class.

Troubleshooting Strategies.
- This class is for a technician who needs to brush up on his troubleshooting.
- Technicians will be given problems to diagnose on all types of models, manufacturers and systems.
- Student will be taught how to properly diagnose and troubleshoot systems when not much knowledge is known about them.
- Great concentration will be on common troubleshooting steps, how to properly write down information and how to find information.
- 5-day class.
